The government has announced the overhaul of the Resource Management Act (RMA), which will be replaced by two different bills, the Planning Bill and the Natural Environment Bill. The RMA is set to be fully replaced by 2029.
The RMA, which has been in effect for 34 years, is polarising across the political spectrum.
In announcing the reforms, RMA Reform Minister, Chris Bishop, says that “pretty much everything” will be quicker and less costly under the new regime.
For our weekly catch-up with the ACT Party, News and Editorial Director and Monday Wire Host Joel spoke to MP Simon Court about this overhaul of the RMA.
They also discussed The Education and Workforce Committee’s interim report on the harms young people experience online, with a majority recommending a ban on social media for under-16-year-olds.
But first, they discussed the overhaul of the RMA.

This morning was my final show before I leave for university! I had a chill show planned, but unfortunately I was sent back in time (long story) where I encountered T-rexes, pirates, Lee, Rick, Sir Isaac Newton, a couple of aliens and even my own dad (when he was my age).
This is probably the craziest show I've ever had, as it's the first show broadcast partly from outer space.
Huge thank you to Hugh Sundae, Buzz Moller, Yael Trelease, Lee, Kaitlyn & Tom, Milly and Wilde, Rick and Nicola for all their help with the show. And thank you all for listening. I've done this show for 6 years, and there's no show without you guys.
Even though I'll be gone, this show will keep being awesome and fun and lit because all of you will still be here, calling up and having pancakes every Sunday! Meanwhile, I'll be studying space and film, and hopefully having awesome adventures now that I'm a grown up.
Anyway, Lee will be back next week for the Christmas Special, and he'll be taking care of the show for a little while while we find a new host!
