Packed with chat and tunes this week including an interview with Richard Langston, author of the new biography on the band that helped launch the Dunedin Sound – “The Clean: In The Dreamlife You Need A Rubber Soul”. And Gorillaz with the late Mark E. Smith.
Another fulsome show this week with new tracks from Kathryn Mohr and Pulp, and a posthumous release from Lee “Scratch” Perry. And if you’re looking for a an authentic Bob Marley dreadlock, one is being auctioned this week in the UK, with a sale price expected of £25,000 sterling.
It’s a double up, a series of twosomes, one thing relates to the other kind of thing this week. Natalie Wildgoose from Yorkshire UK and Lily Seabird from Vermont USA. And new tracks from Willie Nelson born Abbot Texas in 1933 and, on the other side of the Atlantic, Paul McCartney b. Liverpool 1942.
Space is a bit of theme this week on The Saturday Spring and even Jimi Hendrix gets a look-in with Third Stone From the Sun. New music from Grace Ives and Danish band, Iceage, fronted by a regular on the Spring, Elias Ronnefelt.
A great mix of new tracks from Kathryn Mohr to Lowertown. Maebh McCurdy lives up to her Demo Gods brief having chosen the prompt “The Great Spectacle of Music” and brings one of the best prog rock tracks heard on bFM for many a decade!
Karyn plays a selection of tracks from the newly released HELP (2) album. Proceeds go directly to support War Child UK’s “funding initiatives to protect, educate, and provide psychological support for children affected by conflict in 14 countries, including Gaza, Sudan, Ukraine, Afghanistan, and Yemen.”
There is also a tribute to Jim Wilson, founder of Phantom Billstickers, who died this week.

It’s the last day of February and the month the Romans traditionally honoured the dead. The Saturday Spring tips its hat in that direction, playing everything from Bowie’s I Can’t Give Everything Away from Blackstar (his final album) to Mitski’s Dead Woman from her new album release Nothing’s About To Happen To Me.
It’s the usual fine array of new tracks for your Saturday morning soundtrack. Plus, given Friday 20th February is Kurt Cobain Day in his hometown of Aberdeen, Washington, three tracks from Cobain's top 50 albums; a list that was found in his journals after his death. Butthole Surfers, Marine Girls and Fang.
It’s Valentine’s Day and the show features a smattering of (unrequited) love songs. It’s not all hearts and flowers on the Spring (but their heart’s [❤️] in the right place of course!) Join Karyn for her weekly Saturday morning show as she helps you navigate new music from here and abroad.
Karyn's back on b! If you’re coming into the city during February, find out what’s on at the Summer in the City series in Aotea Square – everything from A History of Hip Hop to the city’s top brass bands. Vera Ellen calls in from a road trip to tell us about V-Ellentines Day and her fundraiser for a Yumi Zouma tour support she’s doing of Europe and the UK in March, and the usual array of eclectic new music!
Karyn talks with author Richard Langston about his new biography on the band that helped launch the Dunedin Sound – “The Clean: In The Dreamlife You Need A Rubber Soul”. Richard’s in the middle of a short book tour which comes to Auckland Wednesday 15th April at Flying Nun Records. (spoiler alert: Clean live music included!)
Finn Johansson teamed up with rapper jackaltheblackal who chose the prompt “Is this thing live?”. Jack’s lyrics are a thing to behold, including a nod to the band Dragon on the demo “Miles Teller Wine Cellar”.
Leith Towers from Ringlets doesn’t let a bloody nose deter him from telling Karyn about the Ringlets all-ages fundraiser gig at the Tuning Fork on Saturday April 11th –– proceeds to help the band get to Europe and the UK to play a series of dates including The Great Escape Festival in Brighton in May.
Finn Johansson muses whether to call him "Mr blackal" or just “jackal" as he prepares to go into the studio with Auckland rapper jackaltheblackal. Finn hasn’t had a hip hop Demo God before so he’s looking forward to the challenge!
Finn Johansson teamed up with lead singer and songwriter Jade Lewis and bassist Hon Manawangphiphat from Club Ruby and (we knew it was going to happen!) rolled the dice and got the prompt “Have Fun!”. Listen to the track here. It’s as f f f f funny as f f f f.
Amamelia aka Amelia Berry beams in from Naarm (Melbourne) to get us in the mood for her joyously joyful The Joy Of Living Album Release Show, Friday 17th April at Whammy Bar.
