As 2025 ripens, the days are beginning to lengthen. The constant flow of high quality new releases in the world of Jazz is showing no sign of abating. Def Jim samples a few in today's Jazz Show, including discs from Mary Halvorson, James Brandon Lewis and Ivo Perelman/Matthew Shipp String Trio. As usual, these and others are interspersed with choice cuts from the dazzling array of recordings visible in Jazz's rear view mirror, the whole cooking up to a highly satisfying Gumbo in which new and old rub together, enhancing the flavour of each. Don't miss it!

95 BFM Jazz Show With Hosts Blind Mango Chutney With DJ Sassy & Miss Dom 10 08 25 Mp3.mp3 mp3, 194.83 MB
Sun 10 Aug 2025

Blind Mango Chutney hosts the show this arvo — his second show in a set of '3 shows in a row' for him.

Blind Mango pays tribute to three recently-passed Jazzers: Kiwi/AUS Pianist Judy Bailey, playing a few more tracks from her rare 1964 album; Latin player Eddie Palmieri; & Lalo Schifrin, highlighting his work with Dizzy Gillespie.

He also hits up some little-heard jazz/rock/classical fusion with a Pink Floyd tinge! Before laying down some sweet, Southern Californian, lounge styles by the Baja Marymba Band — which he pairs to the Menu at San Ray. George Duke also makes an entrance for a spot of funky vocals.

It's all here, beboppers!

DJ Sassy (aka Little Parsnip) assists in the show's supporting role & Hosts the Jazz Gig Guide.

Miss Dom does the 'Pop In'  mid-show joining Blind  Mango & Sassy & Hosts the Vinyl Fair Guide. Plus does a spot of 'What's in Miss Dom's (Vinyl) Bag?' as she plays the B-Side of @thecirclingsun 7-inch Vinyl "Muzi' single titled 'Flora & Fauna.' Dom also pulls out a 'Mahavishnu Orchestra & John McLaughlin' track on 7-inch vinyl —  which sparks some convo. - Blind Mango returns by pulling out a 'super-dope' 7-inch outta his bag by local player Michal Martyniuk titled '3202.

A  record number of texts come through in the studio, including some from listeners in the U.S.A., & Asia. Great vibes, all-round, & generally a rad time had by all.

Til next time Stay Jazzed Folks!

Cheers to our Sponsors, San Ray at 118 Ponsonby Road.
