Ep 265 with Azure and FP's Simon

Azure is a deejay, producer and promoter from Ōtautahi. We last hosted him on the radio in 2016, alongside his 2XM co-conspirator Ben Murray. Since then, 2XM has released works for SlothBoogie, Café del Mar, Dansu Discs, Bolting Bits, Of Leisure, and Eton Messy, while Azure has put out solo work for B2BO: Been To Berlin Once. Alongside his nighttime exploits, Azure has also set up Feeling Blue Studios, a space for burgeoning electronic artists in Christchurch. He shells out an hour of breakbeat inflected greatness to open the show.

In the second half, FP DJ Simon eats some chocolate and explores the grubbier edges of his record collection.

Sister Rosa grew up surrounded by music. Her sets are purposeful and uplifting, and have seen her tapped to play with Marcellus Pittman and at some of the most soulful parties around New Zealand. She gifts us with one hour of roots music from across the globe.

After that, we get upbeat with Irish-born selector Aideen Ryan. Aideen is an avid record collector, who takes inspiration from genre-diverse champions like Andrew Weatherall and Gilles Peterson. Ep. 260 with Fantasy Fiction Records.

We kick off with Pink and White Terraces, the project of NZ-via-Berlin artist PAWS+ (Aporia, The Tarts). Their first hour drips with Sehnsucht, as they dive into the influences behind their debut album. Ep. 259 with NYX

NYX are reshaping the role of the traditional female choir through organic and synthesised means. They are currently under the creative direction of Josh Thomas, and Aotearoa-raised Philippa Neels and musical director Sian O'Gorman. Earlier this year, they released Deep England alongside Gazelle Twin, and they are currently developing special projects with Christina Vantzou, Hatis Noit ハチスノイト, and Iona Fortune. They take over the broadcast, with a mixed selection that starts somewhat uptempo, before dissolving into fractured electronic soundscapes and fourth world excursions, including an unreleased collaboration with Belinda Zhawi.

Ep. 257 with HTRK and Orchestra of Spheres

In the first half, we hear from HTRK. Jonnine and Nigel have brought together a textured little escape, at moments filled with bliss, and at others with some unease. We've been trying to get them on the FPR almost since its inception, and are rapt that it has finally happened.

After that, we travel back to Saturday October 31st 2020, when Orchestra of Spheres took the stage at the third edition of Catacombs. Relive the madness, or get lost in it for the first time.

Ep. 256 with Grecco Romank

Auckland trio Grecco Romank release their album Red Tower as a download, cassette, and exclusive perfume. The album was created in the South Island, written in a farmhouse during lockdown and recorded at an abandoned primary school during lambing season. We celebrate the release with a heartfelt journey through lost New Beat, one hit wonders, and Aotearoa avant garde, peppered throughout with recordings of riots and office arguments.
