This week, former prime minister Jacinda Ardern returned to parliament for the last time to make her valedictory speech.

Reflecting on his partnership with Ardern, Green Party co-leader James Shaw told Emilia Sullivan on 95bFM’s The Wire, that they had a very close working relationship.

Shaw said their partnership played an important role in implementing the Emissions Reduction Plan, the framework required to cut down Aotearoa’s atmospheric pollution.

“I consider it one of the greatest honours of my life and a huge privilege to have served as Jacinda Ardern’s climate change minister for five and a half years across two terms of government."

"I will miss her when she is gone."

The former prime minister is set to take on a new role as special envoy for the Christchurch Call, an initiative she set up after the Christchurch mosque attacks in 2019.

Ardern will be working alongside international governments and social media companies to prevent future acts of radicalised violence.
