Doctoral Researcher at the University of Oxford, Paula Larsson, has written an article titled The inherent racism of anti-vaxx movements.  Paula is currently researching the history of vaccination, and in this article writes about how vaccinations came to be, where anti-vaxx movements stemmed from, and what the repercussions of these movements mean for our future health and safety.

With the Government urging everyone in Aotearoa to get the vaccine, Zazi thought it would be interesting to talk to Paula Larsson about anti-vaxx movements. Yesterday afternoon they discussed Paula’s insights, as well as her views, on the racism within anti-vaxx organisations.  

Zazi began by asking Paula to talk about her research, and how she came to write her article.

This week Zazi speaks with Brooke about Auckland moving to Alert Level 3, as well as Climate Change Minister James Shaw going to COP26, the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Glasgow, Scotland.

Zazi asks Brooke about Auckland's Alert Level changes. They discuss some of the positives with going down a level, local businesses staying afloat, and economic support. 

In the second half, Zazi and Brooke talk about James Shaw's decision to attend COP26. Brooke talks about ACT’s objection to him attending, as well as ACT's proposed solution of the Emission Trading Scheme.

This week on the wire Frances began with her regular segment Dear Science with AUT Professor Marcus Jones where they talked about the future for zero-COVID countries, amateur astronauts in space and anti aging clues found in protein synthesis. Zazi then spoke with Doctoral Researcher at the University of Oxford, England, Paula Larsson, about her article “The inherent racism of anti-vaxx movements.” This was followed by a piece from Frances talking to Emma Bugden, Whanganui and Partners Strategic Lead for the Creative Industries and Art, about the new Whanganui Film Office. And finally Zazi had her regular talk with the ACT Party’s Brooke van Velden, talking about Auckland moving to Alert Level 3 and Climate Change Minister James Shaw going to COP 26 - the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Glasgow, Scotland.

A few weeks ago the New Zealand Film Commission established a Regional Film Office in Whanganui to stimulate economic growth, support local film industry talent and potentially help grow Whanganui as a regional screen production hub. With two feature productions filmed there at the beginning of this year, and a large percentage of the population working in the screen production industry, the establishment of the office is a big step in growing Whanganui as its own screen production hub. On the Wire this week, Frances caught up with Emma Budgen, the Strategic Lead for the Creative Industries and Arts at Whanganui and Partners, they talked about what the Film Office’s role is and what it means for creative practitioners and the wider community.
