A few brand spanking new tunes from the states tonight, Dogwood tales, Mary-Elaine Jenkins, The Harmed Brothers, The Heavy Horses. A handful from our fair land as well, Bernie Griffen and the Thin Men, Tami Neilson and offially our best, Reb Fountain. Not to mention a few from the archive, the likes of Los Lobos, Dire Straits(!) Townes and Robert Earle Keen. And of corus ethe favorite - Sarah Shook and The Disarmers. And a shit-tonne more.
On the show this week, we cram a bunch of tracks into 2 hours, playing some new songs by Nancy Sin, Rizvan, Plums, Algernon Cadwallader, Jaeden Camstra and Princess Chelsea. Aimee is away for Who Arted so we're keeping it laid back for y'all... ~ ~ ~
A fun show with the theme 'Geographical features'. Lots of roads, a ton of rivers, a mountain or two, some moons, valleys and a even chemical plant. A real mixed bag featuring Reb Fountain, Marty Robbins, Dolly Parton, Sarah Shook and The Disarmers, Robert Earl Keen, Robert Ellis, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Little Feat and that awesome pairing of Delaney Davidson and Barry Saunders.
The Aotearoa Americana show for NZ Music Month, wallowing in the glory of it all. Not surprisingly featuring Marlon Williams, The Warratahs, Delaney Davidson, The Eastern, Reb Fountain, Kendall Elise, The Broadsides, Bernie Griffen and The Grifters & The Vietnam War among others. A little more surprisingly perhaps, sneaking in that quaint Hallelejah Picassos version of Who do you love?, Some Chills & Street Chant's epic NZ folk song of despair, Pedestrian Suppport League.
Epic CSNY version of Southern Man from the awesome live album 4 Way Street to start the show off and then a musical stumble through Son Volt, Holly Williams, newly discovered Zoe Wilcox, some Johnny Cash spoken word and a nice latin vibe through Joe Strummer and The Mescaleros and Calexico. The badly spelled, found in a bargain bin with a truck on the cover Defibulators turn out all right. Reb Fountain, Kendal Elise bring us Brighton and Papukura respectively, The Eastern unleash the rugby league club and the show finishes with a brand new song from Dirtwire.
Another Thursday rolls around and a slightly manic Jenn plays you some slightly manicmusical choices. Hear tracks by the likes of Automatic, Joe Batan, Proc Fiskal and Sports Dreams. Or, just tune in to hear Jenn be generally, slightly confused. It was America all along!
