Auckland Transport has announced another parking fare increase, pushing up parking across AT-managed lots 50 cents per hour.
They justified the increase as necessary to cover ‘rising operational costs’ and to cover the Auckland Council’s increased resource commitment to supporting Aucklanders with “issues like blocked driveways, footpaths, and clearways”.
As well, Auckland Council have voted to endorse the redevelopment of Eden Park, in favour of a new waterfront stadium — bringing the latest development in a long-standing discussion about the best approach to attract tourism and financial productivity to Auckland.
All they need now is the government to pitch in $100 million dollars to fund the project.

These days, its seems that public transport is the buzz word on the lips of The Auckland Council and Auckland Transport. The lack of support around parking in Auckland City is affecting retailers, with a notion in the public that it is too hard to find a parking space around town. Leonard Powell caught up with Pauanesia owner Heather Gerbic, to get an idea of what retailers are facing in Tamaki Makaurau.
Earlier in the week the Auckland council planning committee discussed a newly proposed parking strategy for the city.
The proposal, which is now up for public consultation, could remove roadside parking on dozens of main roads and introduce fees for park-and-ride facilies.

Hundreds of holiday parks in some of New Zealand’s most beautiful locations may soon be free of rats, stoats and possums after the organisation that represents them signed up to Predator Free New Zealand. The Holiday Parks Association of New Zealand signed an agreement with the Predator Free New Zealand Trust yesterday, which will see its 300 member parks trapping in and around their grounds. Producer Jess Smith spoke with Predator Free New Zealand’s spokesperson Jessi Morgan to find out more about the new partnership.
