This week on our regular chat with the Auckland Council, Jessica Hopkins spoke to Board member Shane Henderson about Auckland Mayor Phill Goff’s proposed Climate Action Targeted Rate.
The new targeted rate is predicted to raise around $574 million over 10 years, for direct climate action. This funding will accelerate the introduction of electric ferries and buses, boost bus services, and fund tree-planting.
They also discussed with Shane how Auckland Council facilities are operating under the traffic light system.

Auckland Council has found itself with an over quarter of a billion dollar shortfall for the 2023-2024 budget.
Mayor Wayne Brown and councillors are now looking at solutions to plug the gap, which could be anything between double digit rate rises or severe cuts.
