Recently, Otago University announced a development around how bacterial immune systems can be harmful for their hosts, and why they are not found in all bacteria. Lillian was intrigued to find out what this actually meant.. Especially because the finding shows that existing CRISPR anti-viral immunity was often a disadvantage to the bacterium when infected by certain viruses.
Chris Brown is a researcher in the Biochemistry department at Otago and Peter Fineran is in the department of Microbiology and Immunology.
Lillian spoke first to Chris to learn more about the findings and then with Peter
