Chief Ombudsman’s Operation Burnham Investigation w/ Nicky Hager: February 25th, 2022

n 2010 the New Zealand Special Air Service  undertook Operation Burnham, a joint military operation seeking to target several insurgents within the Taliban forces at the time. 

The operation became the subject of the book Hit & Run, authored by Nicky Hager and John Stephenson alleging that the operation caused multiple civilian deaths and should be considered a war crime. 

Over the past five years, the New Zealand Defence Force has pushed back against the claims, however an inquiry by the new labour government in 2017 proved many of the Journalists claims. Now the Chief Ombudsman is re-opening an independent inquiry into the case, and Liam Hansen brought Nicky Hager on the show to speak about the latest inquiry.
