ACT Party Catch Up w/ Simon Court: August 14th 2023

For our weekly catch up with the ACT party Rawan Speaks to Simon Court about ACT’s recent pledge to make changes to judge sentencing policies.

The party feels that the current system is not giving criminals, especially ones committing violent crimes, the appropriate time in prison. As a result they have promised to ensure that public risk and security be one of the main considerations alongside risk to the victim. They have also said they will abolish cultural background checks and considerations. 

They also discussed where the party stands on National’s recent proposal to ban smartphones in Primary, intermediate and high schools and why they believe there are other issues that need to be focused on.
