Join Dipamine and delve into the underground dance music culture here in Aotearoa by exploring the origins of the sounds we’re hearing on our dancefloors right now.
In Aotearoa right now, we have something special going on in the underground dance music community. Each week we have a number of gigs taking place across the motu. At these events, your eardrums are likely to be filled with heavy bass frequency, energetic percussive elements, and hypnotic electronic synths. But where do these sounds come from? At first, the sounds could pass as something straight out of the UK, somewhere in Europe, or the USA, but if you listen a little closer, you’ll hear that although there is some influence from these parts of the world, we’ve developed our very own unique sound and music culture here in Aotearoa.
