Today on your bFM Breakfast: Pennie reminds us of the ghosts of Christmas sweater past, present and future; Alex asks us to sit up / simmer down for this year's prizegiving; Lillian reminds us to be wary of reporting bias; and Lena wonders how all those screens are affecting your productivity.
Deputy Paul in the saddle making the wise decision not to have slide guitar in every song. Son Volt, Sarah Shook and The Disarmers, Eilen Jewel, down into the Blues Hole with Heart Attack Alley, Johnny Shines, Junior Wells and John Lee Hooker. Townes, Los Lobos, Magic Factory, going off the rails with The Georgia Satellites and getting dark with Doc Feldman and The LD50, Anna Tivel & Jeffrey Martin. And plenty more.
Quite an adventure as Deputy Paul rides into town without the RCA to 3mm stereo cable and has to learn to ride the Rane MIxer and Serato DJ live on the air! Including downloading the driver ! And the back-up Los Lobos CD sticks !! Drama! Laughs! Swearing! Sarah Shook, Marty Robbins, Magic Factory and more.
Swerving around a bit tonight with more than "both kinds" of music. Celebrating Delaney Davidson's shows over the weekend, but sadly the Roy Orbison CD gives up the ghost on live radio. A bit of a Calexico vibe because (eeeek) they're coming early next year and some heavy stuff from Bohannons and The Sparrows. New Magic Factory release, and happy birthday Joni with Courtney-Marie Andrews, Shana May Cleveland and The Sandcastles, Jenny don't and The Spurs & Sarah Shook and The Disarmers. Plenty more too. Couple of mistakes in the set list - but thats what you get typing at the same time as playing songs on the radio on a Sunday night.
New tunes and old. New tunes that sound old. The Mighty Eastern are in there, Reb, Tori Forsythe, Sarah Shook, Mary Elaine Jenkins, Social Disortion, mid-eighties Neil Young and Willy Deville. New Magic Factory and a very special, plucked from amongst the wetas under the house, Reena by The Spelling Mistakes- fitting right in on The Border Radio vibe. Also, the shittest, most depressing thing ever played that completely threw the DJ off his stride. Quite amusing probably.
