Auzzie crooner Stella Donnelly's album 'Beware of the Dogs' rocketed to the top of many a best of 2019 list last year with it's frank approach to topics ranging from shitty pub jobs, to corrupt politicians and sexual assualt. Always empathetic and oftentimes hilarious, Donnelly's earnest songwriting has earnt her a dedicated following around the world- and a lot buzz ahead of her performance at this year's Laneway. This week Sherry spoke to Green party co-leader James Shaw.The taxpayers union recently announced that the Green party held the highest spending on flights. (Green Party list MPs spent $9816, compared to New Zealand First's $8059, and National's $7332, and Labour's $6499). This has brought about some criticism of the hypocrisy and irony due to the Green party’s stance on climate change, and minimising the carbon footprint. James responded to these criticisms, and also spoke on Coronavirus responses from the goverment and panic buying as NZ increases to 5 cases of the virus, and the recent annoucement from Conversation Minister Eugenie Sage on Pest Free 2050.
Jenna joins us on Breakfast with a book recommendation that's sure to make you feel really nice. Separation Anxiety by Laura Zigman is a tender read with witty dialogue that's divided up into three parts, Jenna reckons it's very relatable for the current environment without being too heavy. Definitely one to chuck on your reading list.
Kiran joins us to talk about a book that kept her up reading well into the night, Auē by Becky Manawatu. Shortlisted for the Ockham NZ Book Awards, this novel is definitely one to add to your reading list. Whilst touching on some heavier topics, this is a novel that is still hopeful and full of love.
