The "Fuck School" special, Mookie, Buzzy and Benny jam two hours of punk shit with Mookie and Buzzy handling the stuff from abroad while Benny jams all NZ punk/metal
Moseyed into town with a bunch of fruity 1970's vinyl in the saddlebags that didn't go to badly ! The Ozark Mountain Daredevils for goodness sakes and Country Joe and The Fish from some 1971 acid trip looking Musical Western name of Zacharia. Brand new heavier stuff from Bohannons and my new favorite western groove psych mates, Palo Santo and Dirtwire. Continued support of the awesome Mary-Elaine Jenkins, some more brand new country by Kimmi Bitter, The Hacks and that cool Mercury Rev Lucinda Williams Bobby Gentry thing that Danielle shared with Renee on Facebook, Marlon Williams of course and that wicked Steve Gunn cover of the Misfits Astro Zombie that Jonny longhair played at Drive Island a while back.
This week on The Swap Meet, we’re joined by Leon D, probably the busiest DJ in town. His selections were the perfect soundtrack to a warm Auckland evening — from Theo Parrish’s rework of Jill Scott’s “Slowly Surely” to the Stepney classic “I Am the Black Gold of the Sun”, Barry White, Metro Area and ESG, tracing a line through dusty disco, boogie and proto-house.
Earlier, a quiet salute to D’Angelo: deep cuts like “Really Love” (Questlove leak), RH Factor’s “I’ll Stay”, and Don-E’s “So Cold”. Leon closes with Moodymann, Recloose, and his own “Your Love” — love and lost groove intact.
This week on Tuesday Morning Glory Hunter played new songs from Weyes Blood, Noname . & Steve Lacy. For 'About Town' he highlighted live songs from Real Estate's set at Laneway 2013 and in the second hour of the show Che from bb gurl stopped by to share some of their favourite songs ahead of the bb gurl show at Whammy Backroom this Wednesday.
