Today for your bFM Breakfast: It's Thursday and there are no coffee beans but that's fine because ~plunger~, phew; Jennifer dials in with other news, aaall the other political news; we've got special guests in the studio, Miryam and Kelly, talking about Disorder; Troy joins us with his top picks for the week (determined mostly by the cover art, right Troy?); and Pearl likes her Top10 when it's 90% NZ music. Choice.
It's a double feature! This week Milly and Tuva'a kick off the weekend with two Friday Live bands, first up are the Baltic inspired dance/folk group from Ōtautahi - Yurt Party. Coast Arcade played a thrashing set for the second Friday Live, brought to you by NZ On Air Music, with thanks to McLeod's Brewery.
Featuring Flicks 'n' That with Steve Newall, What's Cookingwith Hannah McKittrick (Naarm), and an interview with dust (AUS) about their latest single 'Drawbacks'.
Might have gone a bit rogue tonight. There's a Bob Marley song with some nice slidey guitar in it, so I played that. And Calexico played Echo & The Bunnymen's Killing Moon at their show, so I played that. And I played the very psych-border vibe of Dirtwire, and a cool song called Cowboy by Palo Santo, and an Australian band called The Mountains, played them. And Mary-Elaine Jenkins and Tori Forsythe and a new one from Julia Jacklin and that Sun Kil Moon song, Carissa, about his cousin. And a whole heap more.
Filling in for our buddy Gin this week as he's still on holiday! Playing tracks sent in from listeners near and far - thanks for the insight on what you've been listening to this week! Including ~
Teddyyy's remix of Heidi Simpson - Icy Girl
Barker's new album Stochastic Drift
Peel Dream Magazine - Oblast
Bongzilla - Stonesphere -_-
Labi Siffre - Cannock Chase
Smerz' forthcoming album Big city life
Optimus Grime's seminal NZ dubstep ep Annhilation of the Ego
and just out on West Mineral Ltd Infiltrating Roku City by Shinetiac
Nick and Rosetta also hop in the booth to share this week's records on repeat; Bala Desejo is Nick's choice and Rosetta has been jamming Aja's gorgeous record KĀWAI which dropped in December last year.
Of course, shoutout to the listener who has been tuned into bFM all week long and the caller who has been listening to their Robyn, Kate Bush and Princess Chelsea vinyl.
Today on your bFM Breakfast: the blessed return of the newsteam; Pennie has a question and, boy, does the listenership provide; Alex tells us what to watch out for when we're watching in 2018; and Dr. Daniel's so cutting edge Mike hurt himself.
Back in at the actual radio station and tons of fun. 100% New Zealand music. Because we can. Reb. Marlon. The Eastern. Glen Moffat. The Reduction Agents. All torn up. All that good local produce.
