Featuring an interview with RNZŌ about Laneway 2025 and Exploding Rainbow Orchestra, Friday Live with Ocean Beach thanks to McLeod's Brewery and NZ On Air Music, and Nick talks to Greta O'Leary about her gig with Fables on Sunday + an acoustic performance! Thanks to The Beer Spot!
It was quite the party on Rāmere Drive! Beth Torrance kicked things off with the first Friday Live of the evening, playing several tracks from her just-released EP in the bFM lounge to a crowd of vollies and staff. Then LIPS turned things up a notch for the second Friday Live and played their new track with E From EELS, plus a couple more to get us all excited for their Halloween show with Thee Golden Geese! Huge thank you toMcLeod's Brewery and NZ On Air Music for supporting Friday Live! Towards the end of the evening, Nick spoke to the artist currently sitting at the top of the 95bFM Top Ten and played a first spin of the second track of his new EP - Julian Lubin! Dylan and Matt ofMānuka Recordings were also in the studio alongside Julian to speak on the kaupapa of the label and it's collaborative approach to releasing music. Thanks to The Beer Spot!
As per our modus operandi we played tunes from here, there and everywhere. Faves included Takeshi Terauchi & The Bunnys, Larry Gus, Arthur Russell, Rude Boy Rupert and a new single from Créme Jéan that appears to be aimed at the Tuesday One To Four, titled "Hotboxing."
As per usual we played faves old and new on this episode, incl. Modniy, Heavy Chest, Charlie Chimi, Persian and The Vision to name just a few. Some students are on holiday this week so we had Rukiya from Lynfield College as a studio guest and she selected some classics from Sonic Youth, Cibo Matto, Childish Gambino and Portishead. The force is strong in this one.
With another extended show (early start) Jack covers a large range of sonics as per. Over several moods (largely introspective), Jacky G provokes imagination & emotion ~l❀o❀c❀k❀i❀n~
We eased on in to the show today with tunes from El Remolón, Helviofox, Roger Rönning and Ana CMP before stepping up the beats per minute. After receiving some constructive criticism about "not playing enough Reggae and / or Dub" we corrected the ship and banged out some heavy speaker shatterers from Froid Dub, RSD, Calibre & DRS and O.B.F & Biga*Ranx & Sr Wilson. Heat to match the humidity!
In the midst of some scorcher days I thought I'd bring some laid back beach vibes to the studio, before we stepped it up as per. Mori Ra, Drifting Clouds, DJ Spinna and Roland Clark, NoTenshun feat. Sandy Mill and Alphabethead all featured, and we dipped into the bFM faves archive playing Fuemana (RIP), James Pants and Gang Starr to name just a few.
