Peter Lucas Jones of Te Aupouri, Ngai Takoto, Te Rarawa, and Ngāti Kahu descent, is the General Manager of Te Hiku Media. Jones is part of the team who created Kōrero Māori, a programme designed to record and transcribe hours of Māori language in order to safeguard it, and create more opportunity in the digital age for Te Reo Māori to be present. Lillian Hanly spoke with Peter-Lucas and started by asking what Kōrero Māori is.

Countdown is cutting down the cost of more than a dozen women’s sanitary items, in order to reduce period poverty.
In 2016, Countdown, the Salvation Army and Manurewa MP Louisa Wall launched an initiative via the Foodbank project to help stock the charity’s food banks with sanitary products. Since the launch of this campaign, more than $190,000 worth of tampons and pads have been donated.

This week for Green Desk Mitchell had a korero with Environment Minister David Parker about the new National Policy Statement for Highly Productive Land. The new Policy statement aims to tighten the management on highly productive land under the Resource Management Act in order to protect these areas of arable land from inappropriate subdivision and urban development. They discuss what will be included in the NPS and how it will be implemented at ground level. Mitch begins by asking David for a bit of context on the issue, and why there is a necessity for such legislation.
