In Aotearoa, men who have sex with other men are prohibited from donating blood if they have had sex in the three months before, a practice that has been considered discriminatory against LGBTQ+ men. Today, researchers are launching a study to provide evidence in order to improve this policy. In addition, they hope the research will inform HIV prevention and treatment in Aotearoa.
