A joint agreement between the Auckland City Council and the Government has been reached today regarding a Smarter Transport Pricing project for Auckland City. Announced this morning, the two bodies will embark on an ambitious plan to reduce the demand and ease congestion across Auckland’s roading infrastructure. One method the project will explore will be a potential congestion tax applied to road users. 95bFM producer Adam Jacobson speaks with Greater Auckland Editor Matthew Lowrie for his thoughts on what a city-wide congestion might mean for Auckland.
Auckland city mission are currently overwhelmed with requests for food parcels. For this month alone they have given out over 1,150 food parcels. With the numbers increasing rapidly, Lucy Austin spoke to David Ciurleonous from the mission to find out a bit more about the issue and what needs to be done to help. Given rising fuel prices, Auckland council has been under pressure to provide support for those struggling and invest in infrastructure to ensure the city does not face similar crises in future.
Despite these pressures, Auckland Council is hamstrung, stuck between rising costs of fuel and limited funding without central government support.
