The practice of uplifting newborn children from their mothers by Oranga Tamariki has come under intense scrutiny in recent weeks following a number of exposés into the practice. Maori mothers are disproportionately affected by the practice, with 2-3 children being taken away from their mothers each week. The office of the Children's Commissioner is launching a review into the practice, and Oranga Tamariki more widely. Lachlan spoke with Children’s Commissioner Andrew Becroft about the review.
