For City Counselling this week Simon spoke with Waitākere City Councillor Shane Henderson about the recent report into Auckland City Council's response to the Jan 27th floods, as well as repairing infrastructure after the events. Shane also spoke about how some communities are struggling since the events. He also shared views on Auckland Transport's parking strategy. Simon started by asking Shane what he thought about the flood report from last week.
The numbers are in and they point to a lot of disagreement with the Auckland City Council's proposed budget. For city counselling this week Simon spoke with Manukau Councillor Lotu Fuli. Councillor Fuli spoke in detail about the Auckland City Council's Budget and the process of budget submissions from the public. She also mentioned the problems with selling the council's shares in the airport. Simon started by asking Councillor Fuli what the numbers from the public's submissions mean with only 26% supporting full cuts and 54% supporting some of the cuts.

Shane spoke in detail about the issues around selling the council’s shares in the airport, as well as the proposed 400 jobs set to be cut by the Auckland City Council. Simon began by asking Shane about how the extended budget shortfall is affecting the budget consultation process.
Michelle Reid is a Tāmaki based painter, exploring the idea of atmospheres and gardening through a layered material language that incorporates oil paint, pencil, water colour and even the use of a water blaster. Allowing an index of material vocabulary and mark making to arise. Interweaving these explorative methods of mark making with botanical imagery to create a kind of synthesis of material language, that dances between representation and abstraction.
Her current exhibition at Artor Contemporary,A Biome of Hue, continues Reid's exploration of atmospheres. Shifting the gallery space into its own garden-like atmosphere that invites viewers to engage with the work in a slightly different way—installed through the lens of a garden, some paintings hung high, others low to the ground, and one even wrapping around the gallery wall. Inviting viewers to encounter the paintings through this alternative embodied lens.
