Kris and Rob hunker down in The Retreat, with the Sports Report, Emmerdale Review, and a whole lot of lolly-gagging, chin-wagging, and (of course) lotsa vinyl.
Special guests, a few old and a few new favorites. Louis Jarlov and The Lonesome pop in and play a handful of their songs promoting a set at Cupid Bar this coming Friday at 'Hot and Still Heatin!' - and DJ Miss Dom spins a few to give you further an idea of the flavour that evening will have. Meantime, there's some Vietnam War amongst the old favorites and some Johnny Mile and The Kilometres to keep it fresh. Also brand new Slow Motion Cowboy with a song that's on high rotate in my car and new old vinyl of Warren Zevon and David Lindley back to back. And Sarah Shook and The Disarmers because I haven't heard 'Fuck up' for ages.
Last minute call up to look after the ranch ! Playing a fw new favorites like Slow Motion Cowboy and The Hacks. Brand spanking new Kate Owen out of Lyttleton's Sitting Room studios and flash new sparkling, in a gloomy way, Emily Fairlight. Old school Dolly, 80's Lone Justice and a special treat from a vinyl re-issue of The Hoodoo Gurus Gorilla Biscuits album. Dreamy Seirra Ferrel and "That ain't no Hank WIlliams song": Cool for Cats by UK Squeeze. Yes is's true.
Absolute chaos around the radio station with the university demolition/rebuild and the laneway site set up making access and parking not very practical. So rode in on my bike and raided the bFM vinyl and CD racks and played a few off the computer system as well. If you liked Border Radio in the 1980's, you're going to like this.
Today on your bFM Breakfast: Rachel and Sherry are holding the fort while Tess has a day off; David Slack says wash your hands, techno legend Ritchie Hawtin has a chat ahead of Beacon Festival this weekend, Troy has some fresh new vinyl for us, and Amelia fills us in on the 95bFM Top Ten. Big chur to that.
The Retreat team are one Sam down this week. Jenn brings in some of her birthday vinyl, Rob Bollox covers off sports and the Emmerdale review, and Kris calls upon the bFM listenership to tell the hosts what they are wearing in the month of October. Thanks to Cassels brewing co for their delicious (and award winning) milk stout this week, accompanied by a song from one of the team's favourite Ĺtautahi exports.
