Liam also had a chat with Michael Plank from the University of Canterbury about changes in the Covid-19 Protection framework, as well as Christine Rose from Greenpeace about their new 'Halve the Herd' petition.
Casper had his regular chat with Auckland city councillor Pippa Coom and this week they discussed a motion that passed in the council to back a community alcohol harm reduction bill proposed by Chloe Swarbrick.
Emma Carrol from the University of Auckland talked to Jess about the discovery and naming of a new whale species as well as New Zealand vaccinologist Helen Petousis-Harris also from the University of Auckland about the current state and future of vaccinations.
Auckland council has released for consultation their proposal to rezone parts of the central suburbs for medium and high density housing development.
Casper spoke firstly to Auckland councellor Shane Henderson about proposal, what it will mean for Auckland’s housing development and how people can contribute to the feedback process.
Then, to bring in some wider perspective, Casper had a chat with Character Coalition chairperson Sally Hughes about a desire to preserve special character areas and how it might be reconciled with a need for more affordable housing.
Finally, to round out the discussion, Casper talked to Bill McKay from the Architecture department of the University of Auckland about the impact that the council’s proposal might have on the city in terms of livability, housing supply and the future of urban development.
Mt Victoria is due to get a new bike trail that will be suitable for all ages, skill levels, and abilities. The proposed trail is to be done by Trails Wellington, who do more than just make a path. Charlie spoke to Laurie Foon, Councillor for Wellingotn City Council, about the new trail and what the public think.
