Native Bush (Ngāti Pikiao/Ngā Puhi) refuses to be perceived within linear bounds >>> instead see them as a creator drawing inspiration from the meetings of past, present and future. Through many facets and art forms they transcend bounds and binaries, rousing and familiarising the space between known and unknown.
Their collective work with Blood Mothers and SYSTEM OF A BROWN initiated and nurtured their trajectory of meditative revolt. As SYSTEM OF A BROWN they create space ; REFORM@ >>> a self-autonomous manifestation of contemporary club and oceanic expression.
Written by ‘Hua Parakore farmers, activists, Indigenous researchers and Indigenous food sovereignty leaders Jessica Hutchings and Jo Smith, Pātaka Kai encourages a return to Indigenous values and practices to achieve kai sovereignty and wellbeing for Mother Earth and her people’.
The book calls attention to the need for Indigenous perspectives and practices that offer pathways to ecological, cultural and socio-economic sustainability in the face of a biodiversity crisis, and teaches of a greater connection to food in our everyday lives.

Suri joins us with a book that has gone straight onto her must-read list. Betty by Tiffany McDaniel narrates the story of a girl who was born in a bathtub in 1954 to a Cherokee father and white mother. A devastatingly beautiful novel that you won't be able to put down.
