My Friends Are Home II is the second installation of a collection of Millie Dunstall and Cheska Brown’s photographic works, currently showing at Window Gallery.
Presented on window vinyl and splashed with painted buttermilk, the show sees these semi-transparent photographs depicting the artist's friends in their flats in Tāmaki Makaurau – inviting a certain intimacy and conversation between the images and the viewer themselves. Like a time capsule, the photographs carry qualities of nostalgia and sentimentality, allowing the viewer to have insight into not only what those intimate relationships look like in the artist's lives, but also their own.
Sof had a kōrero with Millie Dunstall and Cheska Brown about the show and their collaborative practice.
Priya Sami stops by the 95bFM studio to talk about Bub, her Taite-nominated music project. Bub's debut album, Can't Even, is a finalist for Best Independent Debut. Priya tells Thursday Morning Glory host Emma Gleason how it feels to have songs she began writing as a teenager acknowledged for such a prestigious prize. They also discuss The Strokes, The Warriors and using music as a coping mechanism. Priya is playing at the Powerstation tonight with The Beths. You can buy Bub's album (irridescent purple vinyl!) on Bandcamp and at all good music stores now.
Paul delivers an adequate solo show this week. Lots of music, the beer review with Hugh from Hopsotch feat: Ballast Point's Unfiltered Scuplin. Plus a fierce debate on the spelling of 'eh'. Or is it 'aye'?. It's eh. Or is it? Who knows? Not sure eh.
B-Lush is the solo project of Keria Paterson (Polyester, Dirty Pixels) and while he's only performed once, you couldn't tell when he came in for a live performance.
This week's show features new tracks from Denzel Curry and the Internet. Sam also premiers the first single from Tom Scott's new solo project Avantdale Bowling Club.
