This weekend, Emissive takes over Friendly Potential Radio. The Toronto-based deejay and producer has put out wonderfully textured work on the ever reliable Pacific Rhythm, both solo and alongside his friend Ian as Active Surplus. His recent City Of Rooms LP is also a big spin at FPHQ, and is about to get a well-deserved vinyl release by Telephone Explosion Records. Prepare yourself for a two hour hypnotic jaunt from a special talent.
This weekend, we celebrate three centuries of broadcasts with Maria Moles. Maria is a drummer, composer and producer based in Naarm. Alongside her solo releases, including this year's stunning album For Leolanda for Room40, Maria currently plays with Jaala, Ajak Kwai, and Doroth, and has previously collaborated with FP faves including Mildlife, Krakatau, and Jonnine. For FPR300, she shares a collection that celebrates percussion and groove within music, drawing from artists worldwide. After that, FPR mainstay Simon plays some brainstem soothers.
Artist and curator Madeleine Gifford comes into the studio for a kōrero about two beautiful exhibitions on at Corban Estate Arts Centre (opening Friday 4 November). Grace Mirams is an artist, graphic designer and researcher practicing here in Tāmaki Makaurau. Recently she shared exciting news via Public Record in Ponsonby that Gallery Crossing in Japan asked Grace to exhibit her first solo show in Japan in August this year. 'Murmurs' is a solo presentation of new works by Tāmaki Makaurau based artist Imogen Taylor. Teasing out the push and pull of abstraction and figuration, Taylor conjures enduring forms as part of a sensual approach to painting. With brightening hues she investigates intimate relationships with bodies, both human and non-human, as well as communication and what might exceed it. Poet and illustrator Liam Jacobsen will soon be releasing his debut collection of poetry, titled ‘Neither’.
This showcases the foggy atmospheres Liam has experience in Tāmaki Makaurau and Aotearoa as a whole, consisting of work from the last six years of his practice.
