Kōkiri is the very first startup accelerator designed to help Māori go forward with their business ideas. Over the course of four months, 10 early stage companies will benefit from workshops, funding and just general help, thanks to Te Wānanga o Aotearoa and Callaghan Innovation, as well as Creative HQ, Robett Hollis, Crowe Horwath and Ernst & Young Tahi.
Ian Musson, programme director of Te Wananga o Aotearoa, talks about Māori entrepreneurship, as starts by explaining what Kōkiri is trying to achieve, and why it has emerged now.
Max Richter is a well known German born British composer. He composes and records his own music, and writes for stage, opera, ballet and screen. In the upcoming Auckland Arts Festival, Richter is performing an eight-hour long concert designed to be heard overnight, with the audience lying down. Richter has created a mix of classical and electronic musi, made up of 31 uninterrupted pieces, to be experienced while in and out of consciousness and lucid dream states.
Richter has two shows at the Festival, both in March. Lillian Hanly spoke with him about his work.
Peter Lucas Jones of Te Aupouri, Ngai Takoto, Te Rarawa, and Ngāti Kahu descent, is the General Manager of Te Hiku Media. Jones is part of the team who created Kōrero Māori, a programme designed to record and transcribe hours of Māori language in order to safeguard it, and create more opportunity in the digital age for Te Reo Māori to be present.
