Rachel and Tess were on the ground at the APRA Silver Scrolls 2019, weaving their way through the champagne-toting crowd with microphones in hand, to bring you the hot scoop from the nominees and finalists.
The Beths, Tiny Ruins, BENEE, Aldous Harding and Avantdale Bowling Club were all up for the the 2019 APRA Silver Scroll Award, which recognises excellence in songwriting; with Aldous Harding eventually taking the crown for her brilliant track 'The Barrel'. We also spoke to Angelique Te Rauna who, alongside Tyna Keelan and Matauranga Te Rauna, wrote the APRA Maioha Award winning track 'Ka Ao'. Plus we heard from 95bFM fave Karl Steven who took the title of APRA Best Original Music in a Series Award for 'The Bad Seed' television score.
This year's APRA Silver Scroll Awards featured stunning interpretations of some of Aotearoa's finest music, guided with grace and precision through the awards' new online format by musical director Julia Deans.
95bFM Breakfast's Rachel was present at the Tāmaki Makaurau tapings of two such interpretations: Disciple Pati's rendition of Reb Fountain's 'Don't You Know Who I Am'; and Alien Weaponry's stonking take on Troy Kingi's 'Mighty Invader'.
Later, at the awards screening, 95bFM's Tess & Zoë caught up with Scroll winners Stella Bennett (better known as Benee), Josh Fountain and Djeisan Suskov as they celebrate their win for Benee's 'Glitter'.
Last night, Rachel and Stella headed to see the glitz and glam of the 2023 APRA Silver Scroll Awards Kaitito Kaiaka. Steph Brown and Fen Ikner of LIPS were the Music Directors this year, curating a selection of covers honouring the nominees. 1 year on from the awful Grenfell Tower fire in London, the Auckland Council have declared that the highly combustible aluminium polyethylene filled cladding is safe for use in Aucklands buildings.
The council have produced a list naming all the buildings with the cladding which include 7 Auckland hospital buildings and Auckland universities OGGB building.

On Friday last week, myself (Frances), Joe and Liam jumped in the car and drove down the West Coast to WOMAD.
WOMAD is an international arts festival. The central aim of WOMAD is to celebrate the world's many forms of music, arts and dance. This year saw a line up with the likes of Youssu N’Dor, Avantdale Bowling Club, Sampa the Great and a whole bunch more.
There was also a range of food, market stalls, and workshops. Interviews were taking place with writers, vendors were selling salt grinders, and local chefs came together to sell food from Venezuelan Arepas to Hungarian Langos.
After pitching some tents in the mud, we grabbed our mics and headed out to enjoy the festival and talk to the people of WOMAD.
