Whānau Mārama New Zealand International Film Festival is BACK!

Cinephiles rejoice! The calendar event of the year is finally here with the grand return of Whānau Mārama New Zealand International Film Festival happening across the motu from Thursday 31 July - Wednesday 10 September 2025. 

This year, the festival is bigger and better than ever before with over 150+ films being screened across more of Aotearoa's finest venues. Including some of the biggest films from Cannes 2025: this year's Palme d'Or winner, It Was Just an Accident, Eddington by Ari Aster (starring Joaquin Phoenix and Pedro Pascal), The Secret Agent by Brazilian filmmaker Kleber Mendonça Filho, as well as many more. 

This year's grand list of homegrown films include the world premiere of The Weed Eaters, the new horror film by SPORTS TEAM, as well as Life in One Chord about Shayne P. Carter, WorkmatesTOITŪ Visual Sovereignty and more huge NZ titles. 

For you music lovers this year's festival also brings us a great selection of music based films such as Pavements a music doco by Alex Ross Perry about cult indie rockers Pavement and DJ Ahmet, the first ever Macedonian film to be awarded at Sundance.
