I/V w/ JustSpeak on transformational change in the justice system: May 8, 2019
Tania Sawicki-Mead is the director of JustSpeak, an organisation of young people advocating for transformational change in the justice system. It was founded by a group of young people about 7 years ago, many who were involved in law and criminology. At the moment, the group is looking at the right for prisoners to vote, previously they’ve looked at the bail amendment act and discrimination against Māori in the justice system. Next week, JustSpeak are hosting a dinner table like conversation about the justice system at the Ellen Melville Centre. Lillian Hanly spoke to Tania and started by asking how the event will work and what it hopes to achieve.
The event is on the 13th May and everyone is welcome, from those with lived experience in the justice system to those with no knowledge of it, it is koha entry and food and drinks will be provided. You can rsvp on Facebook or show up on the night
