National: New Zealand Cricket to award equal pay to women's cricketers

4:20 pm on 5 July 2022

By Jessica Hopkins

New Zealand Cricket will now award equal pay to men and women players.

The ground-breaking agreement will see both New Zealand's professional women's and men's cricketers receiving the same match fees across all formats and competitions.

MindTheGap co-founder Dellwyn Stuart says the decision is a good step towards righting historic wrongs.

"While it is hard to believe we are still paying women less than men in parts of New Zealand, it is great to see this has been not only recognised as wrong but action has been taken to fix the unfairness."

MindTheGap and forty unions and charities are urging the government to urgently change legislation to address New Zealand's gender and ethnic pay gaps.
