The government has announced that they expect cruise ships to be able to return to New Zealand by October this year.
Tourism Minister Stuart Nash announced that they are prepared for crew members and their ships to be fully operational around the entire country in an announcement in Sydney yesterday.
Australia has already welcomed a cruise ship to its shores, with the first cruise ship to arrive in the country in two years docking in New South Wales three weeks ago.
Nash added that the delay in allowing cruise ships to return to New Zealand was attributed to extra careful health measures being put in place.
He says the industry has done extensive work and introduced additional protocols to ensure that cruise ship travel is safe.
