An announcement is expected on Monday regarding the Emissions Reduction Plan, with the potential for congestion charges to be introduced in Auckland.
During peak hours, drivers could be charged up to $7 a day to arrive and leave the CBD.
As a measure to combat vehicle emissions, these charges are estimated to reduce the traffic by 12 percent.
Minister of Transport Michael Wood says Auckland's fuel tax would likely be scrapped if a congestion charge is introduced. He added that the charge would also need to be equitable for low-income earners.
