International: Anti-monarchy protests held on Australia's mourning day for the Queen

9:00 am on 23 September 2022

Thousands of Australians have staged a protest against the monarchy and colonisation on the country's day of mourning for the Queen.

Protests were organised by Indigenous group, Warriors of the Aboriginal Resistance, who condemned the ongoing impacts of "racist, colonial imperialism".

The group called for the return of land, the end of Indigenous deaths in custody, and improved state accountability.

Protesters turned out across Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane, blocking streets in largely peaceful rallies.
