Seeded
Seeded is a series in which notable creative New Zealanders reveal six of the songs which have impacted on and influenced aspects of their artistic lives.
(NOTE: only snippets of the songs are included in the podcasts)
The purpose of this series is to offer a window into the creativity of notable New Zealanders, in the hope of perhaps inspiring others to undertake a creative endeavour of their own, or to illuminate the diversity of inspiration in the arts of this country.
“Walking backwards into the future” is a phrase which is often used to describe how the Maori of Aotearoa New Zealand seek to move forwards, via an understanding of the present illuminated by history. This series will “walk backwards” to go forwards, via retrospective insight from creative New Zealanders to inspire the listener to consider possibilities for the future of the arts in this country.
By presenting these stories in relation to the interviewees’ selected music, a hitherto undiscovered cultural history may be uncovered and an audience who may feel ambivalent about many of Aotearoa New Zealand’s creative icons and artists will be afforded an “entry point” – an oral history illustrated by music.
The episodes are not designed to be a thorough documentary overview of the interview subjects, but within the framework of the musical pieces chosen, may document a particular era or period of personal revelation which is pertinent to the creative life of those interviewed.
