Tracey Martin talks to Lillian Hanly about the Child Poverty Reduction Bill, the Housing stocktake report, Māori sovereignty and how important a leader is to a political party. We started by talking about how her week has been.
Parliament is back into question time so Tracey tells us how the first reading of the government’s medicinal marijuana bill went and how the new Child Poverty Reduction Bill is made up.
Tracey is at Rātana today so we spoke with her this morning while she was on the way there, she was driving Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters and they’d stopped to get coffee in Levin. Lillian Hanly started by asking how it would work when Peters steps up to be Prime Minister.
Tracey is back to work now after a brief break where she stayed at home, parliament doesn’t start up until the week of the 29th of Jan but we had a little chat to see what she needs to do before then.
We missed out on speaking with Tracey Morgan from NZ First last week, so our host Lillian Hanly thought a very quick chat between meetings would suffice to see what her highs and lows were for 2017.
We didn’t get to chat with Tracey Martin last week, so this was a bit of a catch up on a report released by Oranga Tamariki last week and the fees free tertiary announcement yesterday where she calls out David Seymour for being elitist.
Tracey Martin from New Zealand First is hopefully finding out her responsibilities as associate minister for education today and is settling into her parliamentary routine. I talked to her to find out the specific method of testing that will replace National Standards, or what will be reinstated as she explains, and her plans for Oranga Tamariki.
